Through the Door, Boudhanath Stupa, Kathmandu, Nepal
The Boudhanath Stupa in Kathmandu engages senses for sight and sound. Visitors to the stupa walk slowly and deliberately around the building, spinning prayer wheels as they go. Bells clang hauntingly and irregularly, while hundreds of pigeons take off, land, then take off again. As they walk, people repeat 'Om Mani Padme Hum.'
I loved this door - the colors, with the dark, engraved door, contrasting with white walls and the deep fuchsia flower drew me to the scene.
